Each of these is a small vice: two metal crossbars with a screw at either end, and every turn brings the bars closer together. You control the pressure a quarter turn at a time, from a light hold up to as much as you can take. The metal is heavy-duty, nickel-free, and won't tarnish. They come as a pair, one for each side.
